Train Paris to Amsterdam
The travel from Paris to Amsterdam by train became very accessible with the introduction of the Thalys TGV high-speed train. It makes its way from Paris to Amsterdam in just 3 hours and 20 minutes. This train has regular departures from Paris Gare du Nord. It stops at Brussels Gare du Midi on its way to Amsterdam Central station and is probably the most enjoyable way to get to from Paris to Amsterdam.
Thalys train ticket prices
Tickets start at 35 euros one way. At the weekends and during the non-peak hours you will find some great deals. If you book in advance watch out for the 1st class tickets which can be as cheap as 2nd class tickets. If you want to enjoy more legroom and complimentary food, try 1st class. Remember, trying to get the train tickets at the last minute could result in no seat availability. It costs about 130 euros, if you make your reservation less than two weeks in advance.

Taking the Thalys train from Paris to Amsterdam means there are no check-ins counters, no lines and no customs. You will need to reserve a train ticket in advance because the seats are pre-allocated.
Service on the train
The Thalys Paris Amsterdam service is available in 1st and 2nd class. The 1st class coach service offers complimentary food and drinks at your seat just like on a flight. 2nd class passengers have a bar in the fourth coach for snacks and drinks. The train is so fast you almost feel like you're on a flight.
Intercity trains from Paris to Amsterdam
Trains departing from Paris are mostly only available with advance booking TGV rail. In order to get from Paris to Amsterdam with a minimum number of reservations you can take a TGV from Paris to Brussels, or Liege (reservation required) and from there take an intercity train from one of these cities take an intercity train to Amsterdam central station (no reservation). The journey time will be longer on the non-reservation routes (more than 5 hours) and unfortunately it may not work out to be much cheaper.
