Holiday Inn Amsterdam Hotel
A big, American style hotel in a unexciting high rise building, in the midst of dull urban environment, at the A10 freeway ring, full 25 minutes by tram from the old centre of Amsterdam. Even so, Holiday Inn Amsterdam has multiple other qualities, which make it attractive in many ways – for business trip, for family stay, for arrival to Amsterdam by car, for participating in an exhibit or congress held in Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, just to list a few. The hotel’s qualities are space, comfort, moderate pricing for what it offers, parking facilities, good public transport links to the city centre and the hotel’s kind and reliable service.
Holiday Inn rooms offer space, big American style beds (two double beds or one king size – for you to choose), good modern bathrooms with large tubs. All rooms are exceptionally clean, air conditioned and non-smoking.
For your breakfast it might be better to walk five minutes direction the RAI Convention Centre, and have a coffee with croissant in one of the nearby cafés. However, early in the morning, when the cafés are closed or if your schedule is tight, breakfast at the hotel (surcharge € 20,-) is excellent. The hotel’s ?Restaurant Vermont is again very good, but pricey place to eat.
Holiday Inn Amsterdam is a great hotel for a family trip. Children up to 18 years of age (!) can stay in their parents' room free of charge. You may add an extra bed in a Standard or Deluxe rooms (surcharge €35,-). The nearby Amstelpark (located just across the street), offers many attractions for small kids. There are also two very good Italian ice-cream places near hotel. Both are located at the RAI Convention Centre: to the right of the main entry there is Pisa – a large kiosk at Scheldeplein 10, with fantastic ice-cream, probably best in town, but the service is there is moody and you will have to eat your ice cream in the street. Just hunderd yards further, at Scheldestraat 68, on your left – Venice/Venetië IJssalon, an ice-cream parlor. Almost in front of Venetië, on the other side of the street, you will find some food shops with very good sanwiches.
It will only take you about 15 minutes to get to the centre by subway from Amsterdam RAI station. We advise you, especially with kids, to use the tram. It is slower (ca. 25 minutes to the city centre), but very conveniant and you will see a lot during your ride.
Holiday Inn is a great hotel for business trip. We should mention here yet again its proximity to RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre (600m.) and Amsterdam University buildings, as well as fast Internet and a large conference room at the hotel. Another important hotel – Okura with two first rate reastaurants is within 10 minutes walking distance.
If you arrive to Amsterdam by airplane, your low cost option is to take a train from Schiphol to Amsterdam RAI station (15 minutes, € 3,-) and walk to Holiday Inn (5 minutes). A taxi ride from or to the airport is ca. € 40,-.
